Looking back at the 1st trimester

It has been three months since the second year of my studying at university started. Now it’s time of examinations, so I’d like to sum up my achievements.

To start with, it was very important to reach the point where I have to make clear what my top-priority was. It goes without saying that I have to develop my English skills, to step the degree of my knowledge up. To be honest, it came home to me that the Vocabulary of Modern English is very useful subject, which gives me a great amount of lexis. The main concern for me was to absorb new information. However it wasn’t time wasting anyway. As there were a lot of new words and expressions, I often felt mixed up, because I didn’t know how to organize all staff, especially during hectic week days.

Although, working in classes gave me noticeable and fruitful results. I mean that interaction and collaboration with group mates in the team intensified the studying process and gave assurance that practice makes perfect. We always spoke, analyzed, did mistakes and at the same time learnt from these mistakes. Even if my vocabulary was fraught of numerous of new words, I’ve faced the prospect that the end justifies the means and there was need to complain about a lot of homework tasks. Contrarily, I think the more the merrier, because in this way we train our memory.

 Also, I found out that writing posts simplified remembering of the words, as I had to think how to use them, find synonyms, and connect the words with others semantically correct. I liked this sort of e-learning which means using up-to-date technologies and makes studying rather fulfilling. We had to create something new, distinct from our workbooks and enterprise it in English. I think it’s a great advantage for students. Speaking about disadvantages, it was quite difficult to prepare for the modules, even if I was familiar with words. It seemed to be undated, never-ending and unproductive at all. Perhaps, I should nervous less, because now I know that my English’s become much better.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that I like classes of Vocabulary of Modern English and I hope the text trimester will gain a new level of English and in future team work I’ll do my best in order to succeed.

Don't let the problems make you upset about your life!

Have you noticed that today people are getting more and more gutted, devastated and even bored with their lives? It is said the main reason of this is that people want to do wonders for their career, status for example. It is obvious that each of us want to be a successful person. Although, working hard all day long has an impact on us. That means, we become more vulnerable, absorb bed vibes, hurt feelings of our families, friends.

Almost all of us have innermost thoughts and it’s difficult to open up. There are some people who think that consulting an expert such as a psychologist can help them. In my opinion, it isn’t a good idea, because they psychologists don’t take an interest in your problems. It’s just the way to earn money. As for me, in order to cope with such problems the best decision is to put them into words speaking to the people who are close to you. The heart will tell you if they are faithful to you too and whether their hearts are in your problems. Frankly speaking, when you wear your heart on your sleeve you really feel ecstatic, as there is nothing that can make you desperately unhappy.

Moreover, you’ll be delighted with travelling somewhere just to focus on yourself, to figure out that our happiness depends on our altitude. In addition, travelling with friends can bottle up your emotions definitely. In fact, we are usually short of time to make journey. Alternatively, you can read books at least half an hour per day to feel the connection with the character. Even if you’re close to tears it doesn’t mean that it’s time-wasting. It’s a good way to reduce stress, become less tense.

Also, you should spend more time outdoors. It’s very important to be in harmony with nature as it gives a feeling of being pleased and over the moon.

We live only once, so there is no time for losing your temper or suppressing your feelings. Try to find in each thing something special that can cheer you up and make you excited about life.

Body Language

There is a good saying “Actions speak louder than words”. In my opinion, we can consider it speaking about body language. It means that sometimes person’s gesture can display feelings as well. To be honest gestures and words aren’t in line with each other. As a matter of fact such kind of reply shows the real attitude to the things which you are feeling about. Each of us should be an observant person as understanding the body language can prevent you from misunderstanding someone’s reply, as it’s always better safe than sorry. Even so, you can never tell what the true feelings are. Broadly speaking, never jump to conclusions as you can be let down.

Still you can watch or even download some videos in which there are shown classic examples of easy gesture and its meaning as well. It’d be informative for you at any rate.

As I was saying we face the body language every day, communicating with different people, but it’s hard to understand their gestures when you see them at first. However, it’s possible, when you are studying with some people, with whom you are speaking every day. For example, there is a girl in my group who usually raises eyebrows when she has to do some unexpected task and she’s confused about it. Also, she licks her lips when she’s nervous or worried about her hometask. Besides, she scratches head sometimes when she doesn’t understand some theoretical material. Another my groupmate, a boy, usually raises eyebrows before he starts laughing. The other his gesture, is clenching his fists when he sits too long. One of the girls drums her fingers when she is waiting for the end of the class and she folds arms when she’s unprepared or trying to think properly about how to answer correctly or something like that.

So, we should bear in mind that body language is as important as words and in order to fancy somebody we shouldn’t making generalizations about someone’s words. Just live and let live.

One man said: “People change, love hurts, friends leave, things go wrong, but just remember that life goes on”. I consider it to be not a misconception, but a good quote which characterize our life in general.

All these things, people, love, friends, other different stuff make our life exiting, but not always. Our life can’t be without concerns. Those elements in question can’t be replaced with one another, they have equal roles in our everyday life, no matter how they could depress us. That means everyone faces difficulties, for example, when people, who were close to you, leave as they have to. Of course, it’s hard to put up with this moments, and we often starts misjudging them for not staying with us. Such reaction means that we are ill-prepared for such unpredictable events.

We have the same feelings speaking about love. However, when the lover falls out of love with you, your sadness is intensified greatly. People feel lonely, stressed and miserable as the one who was the reason of happiness, underrates them. Even friendship, which we suppose to be trouble-free and full of interaction, sometimes can become a real concern. Recognition of the fact that you are defendless as you lost friend or devoid of support makes it difficult to visualize that life goes on anyway.

The main secret of contentment is our altitude to things around us. We should be ready that things may go wrong, but our life is in our hands. It goes without saying, that it’s not always possible to change what happens to us, but can always change how we translate what happens to us. Depreciating yourself is the most common mistake. People don’t understand that they could simplify their lives and it’s evident that life is changing including people and stuff in it. So, the best way to deal with this problem is to prosper for positive, activities and people who are able to cheer you up and make it clear that everything will be OK. Also, we should mention such feature as flexibility which helps to overcome problems.

We have only one life, so there is no place for weakness, bad people who can impose views on you. We deserve to be happy, no matter how many obstacles are in the way. Just don’t give up.

To start with, English is the most widely spread language. That means everyone who wants to achieve his or her goals faces the importance of English. The fairytale about dictionaries

This story took place in couch when two girls were travelling by train. It had to be their last destination in Bristol. As the girls were foreigners they had dictionaries. While the girls were keeping their beds an inexplicable sound was coming from the rucksack. It was The Collocations Dictionary (the CD). The other one, Longman Dictionary, was lying on the table. He said “Hey, buddy! What has happened? Are worried about something?” The CD answered “You know, Longman, the journey is about to end! But the girls count me as a pointless book. They haven’t even opened me as you excel at being fraught with a lot of information. We are not comparable!” Longman understood that the girls’ behavior was heartless. He took the blame for such indifferent attitude. He said: “Please, don’t cry! They just depreciate you!” The CD said: “I’m upset! This journey is the most uneventful one I have ever had. As for me, it is a real concern to be devoided of attention and using” The more they talk the more apologetic Longman was. It seemed to him he was entirely responsible for giving assurance that his dear friend was the most up-to-date book which any tourist should have had. Longman replied: “Listen to me, my friend. You are really unique as you count a lot of essential building blocks of natural-sounding English. You also have the register with grammar information which is helpful for everyone. People always want to seem well-educated. Try to understand that each person choose a dictionary in different way, because they absorb information in one’s own manner. It’s not your fault. That’s why do me a favour ― don’t be so emotive.” But Longman knew there was no problem with easy solution and he had to defend CD in practice. Then he added: “Now try to calm down! I promise the last day of the journey will be the best one.”

The daylight was beginning to dawn, the girls got off the train. Their hostel was just 20 minutes along the bridge on foot. Longman reached the point that it was the moment conductive to help CD. The girls decided to ask somebody if they were going in right direction to the hostel. They leaned on handrail to look up the correct word, but it suddenly fell down. The girls were confused. They picked it up. Longman was wet. Shrugging shoulders one of them took out CD as there wasn’t any other solution. Opened the book, they raised eyebrows and were surprised. Pages were full of different collocations, which guided them through the book, showing the wealth of information in the dictionary. They figured out there weren’t any considerable difficulties. It was made clear that the girls were mistaken having such strong criticism about the Collocations Dictionary. It was a great honour for the CD to feel that he was in favour and worthwhile. So, the day was really interesting and unpredictable. In the evening, when Longman was dry the CD said: “Thank you, Longman! You made a real effort for me! Please, don’t take offence at me. I own you a favour, my dear friend Longman!” Longman answered: “Only by treating others with kindness can one lead a happy and peaceful life.”

My First Lesson of Vocaubulary of Modern English

Today I am a second-year student in Ostroh Acadamy. It’s as clear as a day that our department has some subjects which are connected directly. Vocabulary Learning is a classic example of such subjects. It seemed that Vocabulary Learning could cause considerable difficulties as its main goal is to enrich our vocabulary. But during the class I reached the point where I understood that making a real effort can help me. Besides, I was impressed by our teacher and didn't think about having a narrow escape. I haven’t noticed strong accent while the teacher was speaking. She made it clear that such main concerns as speaking, pronunciation can be overcomed. That’s why we have to work hard.

In my opinion, everyone faced the prospect that VL can definitely improve our English skills. It goes without saying, we were given the brief summary of the course, explanation of the rating system as well. The first class was entirely different from others. I’ve never done such thing as poster in five minutes before. Our subgroup was in utter chaos at the beginning, but we didn’t take offence. Instead we did really good poster about how we love Ukraine together. This kind of team work with familiar faces showed how important is knowledge of English. It can help us to tell people about situation in our country especially now, when there is strong criticism about events in the east of UK. Describing how and why we love UK, we reach a conclusion that it doesn’t matter what language you study, what matters is the language you think in. Also, we noted our wishes and expectations. I’m not entirely sure that they’ll happen, but I’ll do my best anyway.

I hope the next classes will be as interesting and absorbing as the previous one.
